One Month in Shenzhen

In the blink of an eye, it’s already been a month since I moved from Chengdu to Shenzhen. Work and life have finally settled into place, so while things are quiet over this Dragon Boat Festival, I wanted to write down how I’ve been feeling.

Also, an early Happy Dragon Boat Festival to everyone!

On Work

A new role, a new direction — and the pace is faster than I’d imagined. In those first few days, I was playing catch-up almost every day: unfamiliar business, unfamiliar systems, and a group of unfamiliar but very capable colleagues. There was pressure, sure, but even more so a long-missed sense of freshness — that feeling of “learning something new every day” is back.

Gradually, the things on my plate started to take shape, and communication got smoother too. Looking back, the hardest part wasn’t the technology, but pulling myself out of a familiar environment and rebuilding my own rhythm.

On Life

Renting a place, buying household odds and ends, getting to know the neighborhood — trivial, but grounding. Shenzhen and Chengdu are two completely different cities. What struck me most these past couple of days is the weather and the food: Shenzhen’s bright sun and humid heat, compared to Chengdu’s coolness, still takes some getting used to. And the food really isn’t as spicy — maybe I’m just too used to spice, but without it something always feels off. Hahaha!

Being alone in a city far from home, there are inevitably lonely moments, especially when the night grows quiet. But it’s precisely in those moments that you see more clearly what you really want.

A Few Thoughts

A month isn’t long, but it’s enough to confirm one thing: the decision to head south was the right one. Change is never comfortable, but growth often hides in exactly that bit of discomfort.

Next, I’ll get the work solid and live life with clarity. Looking forward to Shenzhen, and to the version of myself slowly putting down roots here.
